madeinahole: (Gonna make you into a pancake)
Amethyst is a shapeshifter, and she does it a lot. She'll turn into you or people you know just to get a rise out of you, or if she thinks it's funny. She's not mean spirited about it but she can be kind of a jerk sometimes.

You may notice that this journal does not have a default icon. That is so that I can make tags where I choose no icon for myself and then just link one of yours to symbolize Amethyst taking your shape. Regardless of her shape, her voice doesn't change and she's always purple, so there's no real chance of her being actually mistaken for someone else.

If this makes you uncomfortable or if there's some weird reason she wouldn't be able to take your shape (I have no idea what that would be but just in case), please let me know here and I will make sure not to do that to you! Comments are screened just in case.

Species: Quartz Gem
Gems are crystaline energy beings who's only true physical component is a small crystal implanted on their body. QUARTZ Gems are meant to be massive frontline soldiers with fearsome combat abilities, though Amethyst herself has a minor defect, and ended up coming out at about half size (around four feet tall, probably, rather than eight.)

Gems do not need to eat, drink, breath, or sleep (though they can if they want to.), as their "body" is merely an illusory projection. Because of this, Gem bodies also can adapt to any kind of environment, making them behave the same regardless of local atmosphere, gravity, etc.

If a Gem's body is too badly damaged, it will vanish, leaving behind only the gem itself until such time as the Gem can reform a new body. Conversely, if the actual gem is damaged, it can lead to distortions and instability in their body, or even death.

Because Gems bodies are not strictly real, they can reform them at will into any shape (though they have a default shape, and varying from that form can be tiring). Gems can generate objects separate from their bodies (usually weapons), though if they lose focus on such items they will vanish in a puff of smoke.

Finally, Gems can fuse with each other. This requires their intentions to be matched and their personalities to be compatible. A fusion is larger and more powerful than any of the gems that make her, and will frequently have unusual anatomy. Extra arms or extra eyes are not uncommon. A Fusion has all the memories and skills of her components, but is a completely new individual rather than two distinct minds in one body. If the fusion is forced into a situation that her components can't agree on, or if their relationship just gets too unstable, the fusion will fall apart back into her component gems.

History: Steven Universe Wiki, and Amethyst's character page in aforementioned wiki

Personality: - Amethyst is the most laid back of the Crystal Gems. She tends to not think things through very well, and finds herself at the recieving ends of lectures from the other Crystal Gems more than any of the others. She actually takes a certain amount of perverse pride in being the Problem Gem.
- While most Gems seem to think that organic processes are gross, or at best weird, Amethyst is perversely fascinated by them. She eats and sleeps just for the hell of it, even though she doesn't need to. She's also the most likely to use toilet humor (She's probably the only gem who has ever actually USED a toilet for its intended purpose.)
- Amethyst dislikes intense self-reflection. She reacts to deeply personal questions by deflecting them or ignoring them whenever she can, and with irritation or even outright anger when she can't. This is probably related to how she's the least obviously admirable of the Crystal Gems, lacking Garnet's stoic coolness or Pearl's poised elegance. There is part of her that forever seeks their approval.
- Amethyst has a deepseated insecurity about her origins. She's the only Crystal Gem who has never been to the Gem Homeworld (having been made on Earth). On top of that she feels a certain amount of guilt over the fact that the process that made her would have ultimately ended all life on Earth had it been allowed to finish. Her creation was part of what the Crystal Gems were fighting to stop.
- Amethyst loves fighting more than the other Crystal Gems, which makes sense as her type of Gem (Quartz) are intended to be frontline soldiers. She's the first Crystal Gem to resort to violence, and the most eager to do so. When she got frustrated by the others, she joined an underground wrestling circuit to work off her excess aggression.
- Amethyst's relationship to Steven is less parental than Pearl or Garnet's. She plays more of a cool big sister role to him. She is more likely to encourage his ideas even if they're not very good ideas.
- Despite having been around on Earth for over 5000 years, Amethyst (and the other Crystal Gems) doesn't actually know very much about humans. She's generally more interested in humans than Pearl or Garnet are, but the questions she asks show a very alien mind.

Abilities: In addition to everything mentioned above in the species section...
- Amethyst's weapon of choice is a spike studded whip. She pulls it out of the gem in her chest, and she is quite skilled in its use, using them to cut through objects or wrap them up as needed
- Amethyst can conduct energy along her whips, causing whatever is stuck at the end of them to explode
- While all Gems can shapeshift, Amethyst does so much more than most gems, and is quite good at it.
- Amethyst can roll up into a ball Sonic The Hedgehog style and charge at things she wants to break.
- While Gems don't NEED to eat, Amethyst has rebuilt her normal form to include an enhanced digestive tract just for fun. Not only can she eat, she can eat just about anything, including metal, plastic, or other non-food items, with no apparent side effects.
- Amethyst can play the drums.
